Default Weiss Lake in early April.??

Put this in the Alabama section didn’t get much response seeing if I get any in the main forum. Thanks in advance guys!

Contemplating a spring trip the first week of April 2022 (school spring break), can’t leave kids behind lol. I’ve been eyeballing Weiss. Some of the air b&b’s are sweet looking. Private ramps and docks are very appealing to me. Pet friendly, WiFi for the kids, lakeside. Sounds nice!! More than likely be in the Cowan or springs creek area-ish. Or at least that’s where I’ve been drawn to so far.

Now I’m looking for ANY possible information for that time frame, usually/normally historically. I understand all factors can’t be predictable. But… What would we be expecting.? Pre spawn? Post spawn? Depth? Spider rig? One pole’n? Brush-piles? Hard lake to fish? Dangers? Any and all information big or small will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Never caught a crappie east of California, but starting to plan a similar trip only on a much smaller budget. I think our timing should be good enough to be inline with prespawn and therefore should be able to check water temperature and find fish just outside of spawning ereas in 4 to 10ft of water. Another way would be to hire a guide for the first day,and dramatically shorten our learning curve. Good luck,be safe, and I hope it's everything you dream of.

All my Spring experiences at Weiss were done a little later in April, but we caught fish by Longline Trolling, casting to bank brush/cover, and shooting docks. Most all the guides were Longline Trolling up in the creeks at that time. My experiences have all been in the Little River area.
It will likely be "pre-spawn" .... and the lake's water levels at the time will determine how dangerous running the lake will be ... and as far as the "method" used, I'd talk to or observe the other anglers and get like'em if they're successful.

All depends on the weather and water temps. Last time we went was last week of March and hammered them long lining. We were in shorts and flip flops. The year before same time period we had on coveralls.

Only thing I can tell you in stay in the channel while running. Water goes to zero pretty quick in some areas.
Long lining is the way to go at that time of year.
    Enjoy.

The one and only time I was in Weis I saw a contour that went from 28' to 2' absolutely straight up.

Thanks guys! I’m not one to run wide open anywhere I do not know. Even places I do know I’m careful cause you never know what’s been washed in. No worries there.

Years back my brother and I took the wives and stayed at a hotel by a bridge on one of the main roads. Log cabin style building and we were in late March. Longline worked best but we did get some shooting docks. Jig and float worked letting the ever present wind to blow the jig into or past the dock. Lemon creek comes to mind.
