Get a reel that "balances" the rod (by its weight). Too light and the rod will be tip heavy and wear on your wrist. I recommend doing this for any rod/reel outfit that's going to be used for "rod in hand" techniques. While I don't do much "vertical jigging", I'd think the same factors are as relevant as they would be for a casting outfit.
Many guys can't believe we use baitcasters for our 13' rods . I like longer rods like the Huckabee Trident but the baitcaster balances the long rod . Livescope has shown in shallow water we fish staying farther back spooks less fish .
