If they can hear the slide rack they are obviously too close.

Had a guy cut between me and the bank one day while i was casting to a structure. He was a friend of a friend and i think he had an ax to grind with the friend.

Agreed. I would just say-"Man I'm new to this whole fishing thing, if I cast into you I can't help it!" Wash, rinse, repeat!!

I can say from first hand experience from fishing under a bridge when the bass guys show up slinging those umbrella rigs in your direction. It takes some fortitude to stand in place when all that lead and hooks come wrything through the air in your direction. Out numbered I called for a ceasefire until I could get cranked up and get out of there.

Catch a fish from the front deck of the boat and the SIL will be standing between you and the water fishing in the spot you just pulled it from before you can get it unhooked.
For some reason he doesn't get to go that often

I don't want anybody within casting distance of my boat, whether I'm doing the casting or they are doing the casting.

This is what my wife would do when ocean fishing in Mississippi. She would cast into their line, tangling them. She then say, sorry, I don't cast so well, you really shouldn't fish this close to me. If they didn't take the hint and move, I would cut their line the second time she tangled them and toss their lure back to them.
