Sounds like and absolutely awesome presentation. Thank you for sharing
Over the years I have been asked about this technique whenever I talk about it so thought I would share. I had another ask about it via PM yesterday. I don't know if I am the only one that fishes minners this way or if others do too. Drop shot dragging minners is what I call it.
It started back in 2017. I hardly ever used minners except to spider rig, which was hardly ever, or tipping a plastic with them. I had a friend take me out on my bday in September to Lake Eufuala and we dropped shot minners on bridge pilers. This was the 1st time I ever dropped shot. We simply dropped down to them and just held it still.
A couple months later Pappa and I were out on Kaw lake with a group of guys fishing. Fishing was a little tough. We found them in some piles deeply buried. We tried everything we could to get them out but not much luck. So I tied on a drop shot setup, as I went out and purchased it after the Eufuala trip a couple months before, and tried casting slightly past the pile and let it drop to the bottom. I then slowly creeped the minner through the pile and BAM! Again I did it and BAM! Several times later after seeing me do it Pappa, who was just holding the drop shot above the pile, tried it too and BAM! We continued this technique and absolutely smashed them.
I get asked all the time, "Doesn't it get hung up?" Mostly no but yes occasionally. If you slowly drag it through the cover 9 times out of 10 it doesn't get hung unless you set the hook thinking you have a fish. If you do get hung, simply get above the hang up and try the rubber band technique (popping your line like a rubberband) to pop loose or simply wrap line around handle and pull back until hook come loose. Hardly ever do I get hung up to the point of breaking off and I never slash the rod around to get unhung.
My setup is either 10lb mono or most recently 10lb K9 white braid on a Pflueger Presidential 25 real on a 6.5' Pro Angler rod. I use a #2 TrueTurn hook in red tied in a loop knot as this is beefy enough to catch the crappy or bend slightly enough to get unhung. I use a 3/16oz casting sinker tied usually 12" or so from hook as this weight is the ideal drop rate for me. Not too fast and not too slow.
This technique has been so successful over the years that I don't leave home with out it or my Engle cooler. It has worked at numerous lakes. I have two lakes that I never leave home without minners and other lakes minners are on stand to go get if plastics/handties fail me.
Hope this helps some if anything. Tight lines!

I did basically same thing on piers this spring without the drop shotting but instead had minnow on my jig and slowly brought it past pier and KABOOM it was on right next to the boat. Now I have another idea to try so thanks. Love the tips good folks give us on CDC.
That method is also absolutely deadly on deep/cold water BG. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing!
that will get er done when nut n else !
I started drop shotting crickets and meal worms for bluegill and whatever else would bite about 30 years ago. I didn't know at the time that I might have invented something, but I caught fish.
