    Default Stick steer boats

I am thinking of buying a 16 - 17 ft stick steer. I want to use a 10 hp on it. Too much boat with too little power?

Doesn't sound like enough hp to me. Most stick steers I have been around have had enough horsepower to get the front of the boat up and on plane. No reason you couldn't use a 10hp. It just may not perform as well as it would sitting in the back and using the tiller. It would allow the front of the boat to come up and reduce drag on the motor

I agree with what you think. The situation is that my most often visited lake is a 10 hp max lake. Just really trying to get more room than my 12 ft.

I have never been in a horsepower limited lake. Been on a few trolling motor only lakes. Of I had to run limited horsepower. I would want to stay as light as possible. If I had any distance to travel

Should be no problem with a 10 on a 16 like the panfisher. On those lakes your not going anywhere in a hurry anyway. All your wanting to do is get there and back. Remember smaller motor less weight.

I agree with everything said so far. I’ll add that you’ll like the layout and the advantage of not having to stand up except to deploy the TM.

Used to fish with a guy who had a stick steer boat….first time I’d ever seen it. I still don’t know how it works lol….even though I have zero experience with them, when I buy a boat I’ll make sure it has a steering wheel LOL.

I think for your application you will absolutely love it. Once you realize you can steer just by leaning to one side or other like skiing you'll be in tall cotton. Put you one of them fancy self deploy TM in it and you want have to get up till it's time to fetch the truck.

When I was shooting docks in lake Guntersville. One of the regulars that also shot them had a stick steer right. He would come zipping along make a turn and line up with the dock, ease the boat in at idle, flip a switch and drop his front and rear anchor winches and be fishing in a monute. Cranked the motor let the winches pick up his anchors and away he went. He was very efficient with that set up

No problemo SS- The easy answer is to have TWO 10 hp motors to be calmly, intuitively explained to Johnny Law as for emergency back-up/primary motor breakdown only, sir! They're especially fond of being called "sir"! On a more serious note, if that's even possible...I owned a 1972 Ouachita 14' w/35 Merc/bow-mount Motor Guide/2 anchor-mates= Awesome fishing comfort. Have thought many times of s/s go-back! I think the added comfort of stay-put fishing easily outweighs speed, especially on restricted lakes.
