long distance visible is my thing , the farther away they can see it , the more likely they will come inspect it and possibly try to ingest it ....

    Excellent Ketch!

Example of a lure fish can see the furthest away:

I have poured thousands of baits over the years and still don’t think color matters majority of the time. Have used the dullest colors in dirty water and nailed them and the brightest colors in clear water and have nailed them though you wouldn’t think you could. Then some days can’t catch crap even with a minnow. To me just have to find the active fish. Some days they just come out of no where and bite anything and everything. This will be argued though until the end of time. End of day use what you have confidence in.

Ketchn gave a good reason for considering bright colors. I look at it from the perspective that, 1. lure action gets and holds a fish's attention and 2. color(s) annoy a fish even further - especially those that stand out and that emphasize a lure's action. The quiver of those black pincers shown above is emphasized by the dark color against a light background. Bright chartreuse emphasizes the tiny quiver of thin tails whether round or flat. A lure appears twice its size to a fish when brightly colored because of the way it stands out.

A fish's senses like that of any predator are super sensitive to what is felt, heard and seen - in that order or in other words: perception. The rest is, do I bite that freaking thing or not?!!!
I never change colors from one day to next or from one lake to the next or water quaility /color

Forgot to add I don’t believe in action of bait either. Have heard this for years but I’m not plugging in. To date my most productive bait is a 2.5” carrot and has little action. Livescope has further showed crappie behavior. Put it in front of them and they’re either aggressive and hit anything or picky and not. If picky find active fish.

I use two colors 99% of the time. In stained to muddy water I use Nimrod’s set up. In clearer water I use a translucent purpleish color with blue flake.

More often than not on livescope '' when it comes to action/ movement of bait less is more '' . I try to hold my bait still as possiable right on or above the fish's nose without hitting it . Livescope makes this possiable .

Lure action no matter how subtle matters especially if it's the wrong action.
Some presentations require certain lure actions as do many lures requiring certain presentations.
The number of lures that do well with certain presentations can number in the hundreds whereas the number of presentations on any given day can be very limited and usually are in my experience.

I just don't know. Some day's I'll go with brown and do well and the next day I might put on white and light them up. I think presentation and knowing when one actually has it is more important. That being said there are a few colors I can't buy a fish on.
