When I push I use 16' poles and a 14' dip net. The only down side it is hard for 1 person to handle....When I single I use 10' or 12' and a 8' net...

I don’t fish out of the boat with long rods. But here is a short video about a 10 foot telescopic net that is insanely light. While I got a 4 foot net that serves me well my in the boat now the 10 footer sure comes in handy on the bank..the second video. I owned an EGO for years but it was heavy so it just hangs in the garage.

Wife and I usually fish from bank but once in awhile rent a pontoon. We will be at KY Lake in late Sept. and renting a pontoon for most of the week. in the past we have caught some fish that we thought we might not land but we always did, usually a catfish or a big ole drum. Have wondered about a net but gee we have so much gear the we pull in our little wagon I wondered if a net was worth the space the space it would take.

Some I have seen at walmart has a plastic tab you flip over to open, that the plastic tab was broken. That looks to me like the weak spot that you need to watch out for, and lots of sunlight might not help it either.

Not a problem using thumb bar reels . get fish to boat hit release and let line slip till you can get fish into a regular net . Long handles are for two people fishing tournaments . jmo.

I messed up. I DID buy one of those a couple of years ago and had some difficulty extending the handle while holding rod with fighting crappie on it. I just dug it out of the bottom of my grab box and am going to practice with it some more. I will also have my standard short net with me. Thanks so much for the reminder. Dennis

we typically extend any collapsible nets that might be onboard when we hit the water , we have found it's typically to late to do it when the fish is on the line

rarely use nets especially with long poles, simply a matter of letting right amount of line out and lifting them up correctly and rarely if ever lose a fish. Do the Kevin Rogers method. I see folks struggling but it's always about not knowing right amount of line to release and I always use spinning reels. we will have one in the boat but it's mostly for when you hook up with a big cat or bass.

those long handled nets are mostly for two man tournment teams seems to me. JMHO

Concur and made that a standard prep event. Thanks for the confirmation.
