Default looking for advice on buying a trolling motor???

I wasnt sure where to post this? So if it is in wrong area please tell me where to post it and I will move it accordingly if possible. Anyways Im looking at buy a used terrova minn kota 80 us 2-45" with link model. First of all im wanting something with spot lock, continuos drive, and track or routing(?) as in recording my track and or saved locations/brushpiles and what nots(these are things ive read more about than actually know how to save/even use yet really lol) My main reason for this post is this a good motor in your opinions? Also what should I look for if any as far to not be easily taken if possible by buying a lemon or something shady passed off as ok to someone with no experiance in this or knowledge as to what I should see or not see as warning signs? Man that could be a million explanations right there huh? Maybe the main or obvious things to look for or look out for? And again. Does anyone recomend this or not? its a 2015 model for like 1600-1700 dollar range. is the price high/low? Should I be afraid of used and price out a new one? Or something different like as in brand? I know its a lot to ask and a lot to type out for me( I hate typing!!) But if you can help me? Thank you in advance!!

For comparison I looked up what a new one would cost. First one that popped up was with the mega down imaging transducer built in for $2400. On the used one I would want to be able to run it on the water to verify operation, see if it had any vibration and make sure all the features worked as they should. As with anything used It is a gamble. The new one that popped up also included the foot pedal.

After many trouble free years with mine, I stand behind the Minn Kota brand. If you buy one used, I think you must be prepared to make some repairs to it. Just like a used car. It wasn’t made to be put on a shelf and looked at, it was meant to be used. Care is fairly simple but some folks don’t keep up on them. Other than obvious external signs, one big one is line around the prop shaft that kills the seal allowing water into the armature housing. Those repairs aren’t cheap. Electronic anomalies are harder to pick up on and I’m no expert on why they raise their ugly heads but they do happen.

If I had the budget I would buy new and be protected with warranty. I’ve owned a PD-V2 for over ten years with auto pilot and co pilot without incident. Not unusual for me to go trolling and not turn the motor off for 7 hours, sometimes more. It’s a riptide model which has potted circuit boards and stainless hardware. I bought this on the recommendation of two guides who use theirs much harder than I do and I haven’t been disappointed. Money well spent. If I had it to do all over I would go with the I pilot this time, the other additions like the ulterra and transducer are even more choices and I have no experience with them.Good luck in your decision and keep us posted.

MinnKota has been a work horse for me!
Not one problem and I fish more than 100 days a year.
I have the ultrex, bought it new when they first started shipping.
I would buy néw if I could.
Next TM I buy, I am going to look at the new technology. Like the Force from Garmin.
    Surely MK has something similar.
Supposed to be easier on batteries

I would entertain new myself or if proven a very lightly used one that got put to pasture because of an upgrade
anything past of couple of years old , just go new unless it under half price of new and looks well kept .
I like minn kota products , but have run some motor guides that were durable .

If buying used i would make sure its the newer bluetooth model. The spotlock on the bluetooth model is way better than the old model.

With the added benefit of using a Bluetooth device to run the motor in place of the remote

Price is too high IMO. Brand new Terrova 80 60" with Ipilot is $1899 from Bass Pro, $2399 if you want the Link model with down imaging.

Around $1000 is usually the going rate for a used Terrova 80 with Ipilot. I paid $500 for mine, but it is a much older model.
