I had a rod a few years back that had a fit issue between rod and reel. I cut a piece of thin cardboard to go between the reel foot and rod and had no more issues.

None of my reels squeak. Something I do when mounting a new reel is I put a piece of tape under the reel seat with the test line I put on the reel. Don't know it that would stop the squeak or not. Work like a shim underneath and don't need to remove any mount material on the reel.
