Any cure for mice cutting fuse box wires?

Had to have the truck towed from my driveway Sun. and $169 repair + $100 tow later. I was told mice had a nest under the fuse panel inside the engine compartment and cut a bunch of wires. Anyone have that problem or solution that works?

Possible solution recommended by the mechanic: put rodent repellant bags under the hood in different areas. I was thinking heavily scented dryer sheets with peppermint extract added. Got to do something!

Side note: for a while I couldn't figure out why the gas gage wasn't dropping after at least 5 round trips to the lake. At 15mpg it should have dropped the arrow to near 1/4 from 1/2. Found out the wire that goes to the gage was cut and I needed 20 gal. to fill the tank! Never did I ever let it go below 1/2 tank. (not funny but as I was filling the tank past 14 gal. I kept looking under the truck to see if there was a tank gas leak!)

Dryer sheets to start. If you check online or in auto part stores you can find tape that is treated somehow and ir repels mice or keeps them from chewing. When we first moved to th country we had a mice chew the wires in our Honda. It cost us 1K to get it repaired and the technician showed us what they used. It is an OEM product from Honda but they don’t normally install it on new builds. I found a link on EBAY for it. Also since we live so rural and travel a lot to doctors, fishing, etc we have had AAA for years and it is worth it’s weight in GOLD to us. We have AAA premier and 200 mile and less tows are free up to 5 or 10 total tows annually plus other services (lock outs, jumps and others) can’t remember all the details.

You mechanic has has some good suggestions as well.

I had a coworker that had the same problem. He bought a sonic type device and put it in the car. If no pets around I would give them a good dose of bait. Maybe even bait in a good nice cozy box for them to nest in. Give them a better place to live than under the fuse box

At my Hunt Club barn I put bags of moth balls under my 4 wheeler. I usually have to replace them every 4 -5 months. I do the same at my house shed/barn for my zero turn mower. So far no problems with the resident mice.. I have heard that certain dryer sheets work for repelling rodents and something about peppermint oil working too.

I had a rat problem from my bird feeding and eventually I got this bait station and it was really good and ended my problem. Thankfully we searched for the dead ones so nothing would eat them and also die.

Cats for long term control.

I dont suggest poison as it can kill off other unwanted animals, but it might be an option for you as well if you dont have any cats around that could eat a poisoned mouse by accident. Make sure if you do poison them, that you put the bait in a container away from your vehicle, something that has a hole small enough that only a mouse can get into (squirrel proof it).

The rodents have to leave your truck for food, so they are leaving and going somewhere at night. Putting 2 dozen mouse traps around your truck at night for a couple days in a row might knock them down and out. That is what I do when they get in the garage/buildings. I put out 2 dozen plus traps baited with peanut butter or velveeta cheese and I'll have 6-8 of them the next morning, then a couple the following day and never see another one. After I think I got them all I sprinkle flour on the floor and put a handful of birdseed in the middle of it. No tracks going to the birdseed = all mice gone! Go big with the traps, lots and lots of traps. Last thing you want is to put out 4 traps and catch 4 mice then educate all the rest of them.

Bounce dryer sheets works to keep them out once you have evicted them, as does mothballs but you dont want that smell getting in your truck.

Sucks when pests do damage, thankfully we havent had any mice issues with vehicles but did have a squirrel chew off three plug wires and a vacuum line once. I waited for it to go back to the car so I could identify which one it was and that one is no longer with us. Never had a problem since.

Living on a farm for my whole life...Our Minny-Sota mice use bounce dryer sheets, and the smelly packets to make nests. If it smells like mouse (urine/feces)you need to get ride of that smell, it's a mouse magnet,poison works but they have a tendency end up dead in deep with in the vehicle (pewy).
When we park semi trucks and tractors for the winter mothballs,sticky traps,and mouse traps in the cabs...poison boxes around the outside/inside walls of the buildings...We check equipment every week and poison boxes ever month...MOST of the time it works,but not always....I hate mice!
