    Default Trolling Rivers

Does anyone push jigs in main rivers? I usually get off in a lake or somewhere out of current. Wondering if I am missing out on fish.

I've never tried it but I have the opinion that it would be a waste of time if much current exists. Crappie stay away from current and are usually found on the down stream side of any current blocker. This presents more of a jigging or float and jig situation. Their habitat in current areas would be difficult to fish any other way. Like I said...just my opinion.

I fish the Coosa River and can only spider rig when there is little or no current.

When in Florida i fish the St. Johns and have spider rigged in the river. Going with the current, the boat will move around .9 mph. So, as above stated, it would depend on the amount of current, and what we catch fish from is submerged wood. You will get hung up and break off but that's part of it. If the current is to strong, I agree with above posts. Creek mouth or major current block.
