since we keep only the turtles that might bite, and that is most turtles
we have a steadfast rule about no fingers in the turtle aquarium

Watched one crush a pencil. Good enough demonstration for me to keep my fingers away

I don’t mind those that I know are good snakes but I know I can scream like a girl and run faster than anyone thinks I can when a bad one gets aggressive with me. That hasn’t happened in a long time. I generally carry a short barreled .22 revolver with CCI shot shells in the first chamber or three. Very effective when needed. I also don’t walk around fish much anymore, but not all wildlife has 4 legs either.

Been a couple of years ago I was fishing a spot way back down a road. Not much traffic at noght. I had been there a couple of hours fishing, Two old boys showed up and started fishing across from me. The one keep telling me that I had some nice gear. I am starting to think uh oh. It rocked on a bit and he asked what I would think it he came over and took that gear he liked. Told him I wouldn't think to kindly of it actually. He let me know there was two of them. The one doing all the talking started to walk up over the short bridge. He got to the top of my side headed down to me. I stood up and moved my jacket his buddy went to screaming gun, gun, he has a gun. It was still in the holster. The talker assured me they were just joking around. I apologized for scaring his friend when he saw that pistol when my jacket rode up. For some reason they didn't fish long agter that. As soon as they got gone so did I.

funny how 2 on one becomes not so brave in the face of a fast pistol , was confronted by some folks in my front yard years ago late one night , there were quite a few of them , around 10 guys and 2 were actually fighting in my front yard .
they woke the baby and the great dane was losing her mind trying to get on them , I held the dog and opened the front door and asked them nice as I could to go fight in someone else's front yard .
The biggest one stepped to the curb ,told me, "there I am not in your yard " and dared me to make him leave !
To say the least that was the end of mister nice guy , I said wait one second while I secure the dog , I will be right back ....
closed the door about a half second and remerged with an auto in hand and ripped the slide back and you aint never seem so many guys run away like cock roaches when the lights come on in your life , they seemed to speed up as they ran as well ....
probably because by that point the wife got involved and was yelling " SHOOT THEM " !

Man, you guys do have some adventures of the bad kind. There are always those too lazy to work for what they would like to have and prey on others. You we’re fortunate to have the great equalizer…

the world as we know it slides further into decay daily , it would be a good idea to have an equalizer close to you at all times.
that episode was 30 years ago , today things are much worse than back then to be sure .

About 4 years ago I was working seconds. I had left work about 1 am. Nobody else was on the road. I am driving the speed limit, kinda just unwinding from the day. A little Mazda pickup passed my cut over short and slams on the brakes. I go past them on the apron of the road. There is no cell service on this stretch of road. They catch back up with me again they swerve at the rear wheels of my truck. Again I hit the apron of the road. I put a little distance between them and me. Here they come up beside me again. I never will forget the look on that kids face in the passenger side of that truck when that revolver came up into veiw pointed at them. That red headed kid looked like Carrot Top . His eyes got big and he disappeared into the floor of that truck.

The first incident I didn't pull a gun. They just happened to see it in the holster.
The one with the truck after they tried the second time to cause a wreck I figured they didn't have anything in mind that was going to turn out good for me.

sometimes there are those that want to prey on the what appears to to be those that are weak ,it saddens me to a great degree , a crappie chasing fool friend of mine just had his wife get beat down in broad daylight by a couple stealing purses last week ,at a busy gas station on the main highway here in dfw and not a soul helped her ! they all just watched it happen and YES they got her purse and YES ,she had a 380 auto in it and never got to get it out to equalize the scenario . the law showed up and went basically oh well
no worries , he offered up 5,000 green backs and all the info on fakebook and it wasn't long before someone contacted him with names and locations to find them, some time soon it will come to pass them folks will meet up with more trouble than they caused is what comes into my mind .

Those are some scary stories. And you’re right, Ketch, your incident was 30 years ago - today a wrong look can go to gun smoke in a flash.
