Default First experience with Crappie Magnets

Ok, I’m primarily a salt water guy and fish mostly out of a kayak, but keep coming back to poke the crappie pile. Usually, I catch them by accident, or at least not targeting them, just “fishin.” Found that 1/32 Road Runners do pretty well and tried minnows on a slip float last week. That worked very well and had the best luck on the paddle back under a bridge. Figured I’d use the last of the minnows and did used them all up! Small fish fry for the reward.

I’ve been reading posts on the forum and found my way to ordering a B’n’M TCB, some Slab Sauce, and Crappie/Trout Magnets. I watched the video on the website a couple of times, and figured I’d be good to go. Hit the water this morning, paddled out to the bridge, dropped anchor and rigged a CM with supplied float and started casting. The bite was slow, but I was catching some about 3 feet deep. It was close to 90 degrees and a whole lot more comfortable fishing out of the sun! After a bit, I added the Slab Sauce, and that helped considerably! I had a few errant casts with the new rod and when reeling back in, the Crappie Magnet got blasted. I was surprised something moving quickly, especially in the heat, would draw a strike. I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I tried a few more cast/retrieves and it was the ticket. Off came the float and I had a ball for a few more hours. Color didn’t seem to matter, but the lighter (1/32) jig head seemed to work better. Wonderful day spent on the water.

I’ve got a few filets in the refrigerator, and I’m rigged up already to go tomorrow morning at a different spot and try my new toys again. It felt good to have some minor success. FWIW, I found the TCB to be a real nice rod. A little different from what I’m used to but it will cast those light jigs a good ways. I think it would be helpful to put some high vis line on…..regular mono was a little difficult to see.

In any event, thanks to all for the wealth on knowledge shared on this forum. It certainly gave me a better jump off point and some solid techniques to try!

Congratulations, I love my TCB’s and of course Slab and G sauce! I am happy you had success and really liked your equipment, there is nothing like the THUMP!

Yep, sometimes you have to try a few different retrieves To see what they want on any given day. I use the Trout Magnets as opposed to the CMs, but they are very effective. On small streams the EZ Floats were key to success, but you just have to experiment a little. You’re on the right track.

Yup crappie magnets and the TCB rod are both good. But that Slab and G-Sauce though are the bomb and help everything. Even ice cream....lol

That's a great first day with a new piece of tackle. I struggled a bit at first with my magnets until I figured out that the fish like a faster movement with them just like what you did. If I'm trolling and jigging I go about .7mph and they work awesome!

Crappie magnets are tough. They rarely get pulled off the keeper and don't tear like a lot of plastics I've used. Quality product, two thumbs up.
