    Pretty good advice

I think that the powers that be have been lying about inflation for several years now. It is the norm for me to look into buy something and it's WAY up over just a couple or few years ago. Everything from a $15 item to a $50k item. As for boats, yes, used prices are way up, too. Prices on new trucks are just stupid. Housing market, as well.

    Bought a steak lately?

On top of inflation, parts shortages could do us all in. I have a friend in industry who sells industrial chain and he is, literally, fearful that the wheels are going to fall off of the economy in a catastrophic way due to you can't get parts and he fears a domino effect kicking in. He says all of his contacts in industry are thinking the same, that it's happening all over. As for how that applies to this thread, I suppose I could surmise that if one finds something in working order, better buy it if you really want it.

Regarding new boats, I talked to a guy who sells motor homes and he said they normally keep 250 units on the lot and they have 15. He said a car dealer is in the same boat, scuze the pun. And boat dealers, the same, very little stock on hand.

While it has a number of negatives, consider buying a used boat from another area. For instance I was looking at semi-vees here in Kentucky and there were very few, and the prices were astronomical. Did a search around the Great Lakes area, where that type of boat is popular and they were plentiful and much less expensive. While it is a pain in the tushy to have to travel to pick up the boat, the price difference of a few thousand $$$ would make the trip worth while. As long as you stay with a brand of outboard that is supported locally, you should be able to get it serviced when need be.

There ain't enough aluminum in a boat to make that much difference. It's the wiring and the connectors and other materials. Fish what you got....build you a war chest of cash....be ready to purchase fall of 2022... IMO

Glad your feeling better and back in the game.

I would say more in increase in demand over material cost to drive prices up. Add to that lower supply numbers do to shutdowns or direct manufacturing or support manufacturing

Used boats are astronomical right now. There is a thread on a different foeum going. Guys are turning peofits on boats. One guy said he just sold his Hewescraft he bought in 2010 for 175% of what he paid and the buyer didnt dicker at all. I watched for months. Finally said screw it and called a dealer. I got one of the last 2 2021 boats. 15% increase coming on the 2022s. This boat was a stock model I modified. They ordered it in Jan and its supposed to go into production tomorrow. They were supposed to get 21 boats and got 6. He said next year will he tighter and he is selling boats telling folks they probably wont see them till fall 2022.

Buddy has a cylinder with low compression on his 115 optimax. He was quoted Xmas best case scenario for a rebuild or replace.

Its simply a massive increase in demand, which was rising anyway, but spiked heavily due to the pandemic. Supplies are harder to get in all markets, industrial, automotive, recreational, etc- and finding labor is even worse. Mix that all together and you've got empty dealerships, crazy long wait times, and even crazier used prices.
