For light to gather bait and then predatory fish. I prefer a white gas Coleman lantern hung over the water. The 228 model has a larger reflector to direct light down on the water. The fish will be close under the lantern.

Can’t always make a light brighter, but several ways to make it dimmer. Good luck

Pic of the light in my pool last night. For ref pool is 24'x48'
Received my light yesterday. To clarify I posted earlier, I thought they had their original lights on clearance. That doesn't seem to be the case, the website says the outlet lights have cosmetic defects only. That appears to be accurate. What I got looks to be new style lights. Whatever they use to embed the LED's to the tube has cosmetic defects. Some of the substance might be thin in a spot or two or be smeared somewhat. I ended up with 4 of the 12" lights. I don't see my self using more that two at a time.
Tried one of them out in my pool last night just because I could. The pool water is pretty clear, I could a faint glow of the green light on the opposite side of the pool 24' away. Can't say how that will equate to use on a lake with darker water.

Water clarity has a lot to do with how far the light travels. That is a bright light.
