half a minnow sunk to the bottom on a small jig head beside a tree in the lake in deep water and ever so slowly raise it until something pulls back .
    simple and very effective

I have been to Lake Kishkutina in Ontario a couple of times. Smallness nearly every cast! Fun times.

I got more serious about crappie after moving to TN in ‘05 and got a bass boat in ‘09. Won my first tourney I entered with it by stumbling into some bamboo a gent that I later met had set next to some productive cedars. As I fished it later I noticed that if I lined up 2 light posts in the parking lot close by and ran straight toward them I would find the boo when I got to 14fow. After that I found other piles and stakebeds by looking for an odd landmark and “sniffing” around a little.

we used to open water striper fish out of a 12 foot john boat , no graph , we would limit on them easily by using landmarks to find the hump out in the middle of the lake .
but to be sure many times one tree on the bank to this day can tell me if you are near the spot we need to be visiting .
