once saw a fella try to get closer to a "good" spot in a spillway ,he slipped and went into the whirlpooling exhaust in the spillway and then several other folks about drowned along with him trying to get him to safety . eventually the law showed up and rescued all of them while the herds of us not so eager to die folks down stream me included thought WOW that there is the dumbest bunch of folks ever .
as much as myself and my bud wanted to try to help we both knew the amount of danger in that current and stayed clear of the fiasco of people jumping in to save him . 4 of them ,him included were holding onto small coffee can sized holes in the concrete on the sides of the spillway as the water did it's best to pull them all towards certain death . I saw at least 3 life jackets go under and NEVER come back up that were tossed into to those folks !
REALLY DUMB for sure

The critical moment is the crown of the ramp. I’ve seen a couple boats pitched off their trailers bouncing over the crown too fast.

I have seen a few slide off while backing down. One when the trailer hit a bump the other was the trailer got a little sideways they driver stopped and pulled forward. The fella in the seat of that bass boat took a ride off the trailer.

We were fishing for stripers below Barkley Dam. 5-6 boats were bumping live bait on the bottom. We were all catching good fish on a hump where the boils met the main current. Every boat was giving the other boats plenty of room and we were all catching good fish. All was working well for all of us until some out-of-state jerk pulls up onto the hump and throws an anchor out of his Bass Tracker. He effectively blocked all of the rest of us from drifting the pattern we were catching fish on.
We were all pretty unhappy at Mr Jerk until the Corps kicked on another generator. This raised the river level and made the current swifter. Mr Jerk realized his bow was getting lower so he decides to pull anchor. Problem was his bow eye was now under and it seems he was using a steel wire cable on his anchor. The rest of us sat back, wondering what came next. The guy is now in a total panic , trying to cut the steel cable with a knife. His bow is getting lower as the rest of us asked each other if we were going to pick him up when he abandoned ship.
An old commercial fisherman saw the Jerk’s predicament and eased up to the Bass Tracker bow. He took out a pair of rusted bolt cutters and reached under the bow and cut the cable. He then proceeded to give the Jerk and good cussing along with the warning he wouldn’t cut the cable next time. The Jerk drifted down the river, cleaned his drawers, and loaded up and left.
I hope the Jerk realized how close to disaster he came while screwing up fishing for the rest of us.
