You see a lot of vertical rod holders mounted on center console boats. They would save a lot of space. If you went someplace with low overhead clearance you could break a rod
Can anyone recommend a rod holder for this problem? Moving from spot to spot on a lake at speed, I would like to secure rods such that they don't fly out of the boat but I'd rather not have to put them into a rod locker. My rod lockers are a bit cumbersome. Or should I say, short. It's 'only' a 17 ft boat (Xpress Pro 17 bassboat). This could apply to my bass fishing rods but the main concern is high end JDM spinning rods with uber thin tip sections. I have to be extra careful with these. I have assumed a rod holder would be something horizontal but I dunno, what about vertical? Is that practical? Where would you put them? As for horizontal, I can't see where these could be placed on my boat other than on the back deck, crossways. I saw a rod holder awhile back called "bac rac" --

I have often wished for a bass boat that has a rod locker long enough you could just lay rods down into it instead of inserting them up into it but I don't have a boat like that. Yet!

The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
What about the velcro straps that mount to the floor? That is if you have the room to lay the rods on the deck

I have used this for several years with no incidents. Now my flying down the lake only occurs at 32 MPH as that is as fast as my boat will go....but they stay put. My rod locker will hold 9 foot rods but I found out the hard way that assembled 2 piece UL rods do not belong in a rod locker. Yes I do know how to orient a photo..but every once in a while no matter what yo do it will not do so.

I prefer vertical rod holders most of the time ,broke a high number of rods in anything holding them horizontally .
some of my buds have them real long rods and use velcro straps to the deck ,work well but still bother me .

You can also do vertical as well. I do both depending on the lake I am fishing.
Cornfield Crappie Gear makes a vertical rod holder in two sizes. Mark is a sponsor here and makes great equipment.
Here is a link to the smaller one.
