I have been doing a lot more catch and release of large crappie like Richard Gene. And I was wondering how long after you thump them, bump them, catch them and quickly release, take a picture of them, or just chuck them back to the water, "How long does it take for that crappie to bite again?"

I murdered the fish today for 2 hours. 3 limits if I wanted them. All fish were 11 inches and above. I released all the fish because my wife is on strike.

So it made me curious how long it has taken your fish to regroup and hit again?

Just a few weeks ago I caught what I belive to be the same fish out of the same treetop on the same day within 3 hours of each other. The only reason I belive it to be the same fish was it was same exact length & had a bad/clouded right eyealong with being my best fish that day. Fishing a small creek along the Ohio river.

Not crappie, but the locals on the lake would be ready to fish when the bass tournaments would turn out the fish they had in the tanks. Those fish had to have been stressed, they were caught, hauled around in a livewell, put into a bag, weighed, photoed, released into a tank and then back into the lake in a much different area from where they were caught.

I have caught crappie 2days after that I know I smoked earlier. How? My jig was still in their mouth from 2 days prier.

That's the only real way I know try and determine when and how.

not very smart fish , sometimes we ketch the same one within less than an hour of the first time ketched it .
did you ever see the video of the guy that released a 3 lb black and it bit a few minutes later again .
I know positive most all of them will bite within less than 24 hours of the first rodeo.
and a lot of them in under 24 minutes too .....
one fish last year hit my jig ,broke my line and my bud next to me caught it within under 2 minutes of the line being broke .
obvious reason we know ,it spit out my jig when he landed it .

Amazing they would hit again after such a short time. Definitely not in a spooky mood!

I agree with Ketchn, small brain and large appetite...It's been a bit since this happened to me, but it happened around a half hour to an hour from being caught. Not sure on exact time length, as I sometimes get lost in my surroundings and seldom pay attention to the time...
