Some times that muddy water turns them on to bite.
So many of ours are ruined lately with extra high water , several are even no access .The good news is the water is starting to ease up and some are dropping in levels and clearing up .
I hit lakes that have less issue with high water rise and or easier access when this occurs and as of lately one of my regular spots has been super muddy and a little high ,but easily accessible .
Took off a bit early and asked David out west of town ,if I could bring along H , he rode all the way over to Ez'z spot the day before and just gave up when he saw the flooded parking lot .
Well it started off with biting crappie and 3.5 hours later nothing had changed ,fish bit well all over the lake and the water was pretty muddy ,but not terrible . All the fish were in close to the shore lines and it wasn't just crappie doing the short water hammer time festival .
Nothing was safe fish wise it seemed and towards the end we actually were hoping to ketch us a carp to make it a every single species in the lake came to visit the boat .
We managed to ketch a flathead ,a channel cat ,a drum ,some warmouth , a black bass, bluegill ,long ear sunfish ,black crappie and white crappie .
Seems like I had imagined and told my other bud last week look tight to the bank , everyone in the lake will be up in short water and sure enough there they were just like when he visited .
It was a bite per cast to the bank if you hit within 2 or 3 foot of the shore and you got bit before it reached around 5 foot deep . The only problem with the episode was there was no for sure it was a crappie when it bit .
Best guess on how many we managed to ketch is around 350 to possibly 400 fish with probably 300 or more being crappie . We actually got tired of ketchn them and called it about 7:00 pm and we got there about 3:30 pm .
They seemed to prefer oranges and brown and pink best and YES we pitched all kinds of stuff at them . never noticed the water temperature , the beach was loaded with swimmers and the graph was something that never got used much .
I went right into the look for the bait on the surface mode and sure enough where there was flickering sparks on the surface ,there was fire right under them .
good times i tell ya ,a bit warm out there ,but really fun
