LED Strip Lights

Thinking about adding the flexible strip lights under the rub rail on our boat for night fishing. The only problem my wife and I have a different color choice so she suggested that I get some professional advice. She wants to know what would be the best color to use. My wife loves to fish day or night so this is not about looks but what would be best for night fishing. This was her idea to ask on here about the color.

I just added a set a couple of months ago. I believe it is not legal to use red or green do to confusion with navigation lights. I went with black light leds a 16' string down each side. Inside the white metal building they are super bright. Out on the water not much visible light. Any fishing line that react to black light looks like 1/4" rope. Fluorescent float also glow brightly. I have not had them attract insects which is good. Depending on your style of fishing. They would be great for fishing minnows under a float or tightlined off the side of the boat. If there inside the boat it does not matter as far as the law goes. For me I went with red interior lights and used green in the compartments, both colors are good for keeping your night vision. I like the green in the compartments as they are a bit brighter and easier to see what I am looking for. Both sets are on different switches and both are set up to be indirect.

On my old jon I had green interior lights, I like the light they gave, but this week I add some amber light strip under the Bimini top on my new to me Jon, last night was the trial run. They give a lot of light to see to tie lure on and move about in the boat, or even read (my daughter spent most the evening reading). But they don't help with seeing what's going on out in the water.
