The ultimate troll motor

I just came out of a 12 year old boat with a MK Terrova w/spot lock and am now in a new nitro with MK Ultrex w/spot lock. Comparing the two, the ultrex is a way better trolling motor and the spot lock seems to work a lot better although that could be because I have a heading sensor with the Ultrex and never had one with the Terrova. Even if the spot locks worked equally well, I still give the upperhand to the Ultrex. It works like a cable steer in regards to how fast you can turn the head etc. I love it.

I bought a used 2019 Xpress Pro17 with 115hp Yamaha 4-stroke, Minn Kota 24v Fortex. I do like this boat alot but it sits stern low in the water at rest. I don't know if it weathervanes more than most but it does weathervane in wind. Mind you, if it's real windy, I am usually staying home! I suppose heavier glass boats are better regarding weathervaning just because they are heavier or is it hull design? Anyway, I would like a troll motor with spot lock. If I got one, would it work well on a boat that weathervanes?

I am a bass fisherman, but I actually fish for what bites. Crappie, bream, even catfish. So, I need spot lock but also use troll motor when fishing through an area, bank or weedline. I am not married to Minn Kota, I am open to whatever. Is there any brand/model that you like and if you have insight on the above, let me know!

FWIW, I have Helix 9 and Helix 7 will also be upgrading the sonar and adding some kind of Livescope sonar. Or else sell the boat and get another one!

So, two biggies for me are going to be state of the art troll motor and sonar.

i had an 18 ft express. with 115. it did the same thing. i had a 112 ultrex and it did great when trolling. yes the 112 was overkill on that rig but it increased my battery life significantly esp longlining. one bit of advice mount the TM gps puck as close to tm as you can get it. another thing my boat behaved a lot better with only 1/2 tank of gas my gas tank was 35 gallons and i never kept more than 15 in it. 4 strokes will run several hrs on that.

I just upgraded my boat from a RT188 to a RT198 ... had a Motor Guide Fortex on the 188 and to be honest I liked the direct cable steering for scanning with my live Scope much better then the Ultrtrex I have on my new boat HOWEVER spot lock is worth it's weight in gold in certain situations ! I can live with the electric steering of the Ultrex ( have my scope transducer on trolling motor shaft ) but the direct cable steering was MUCH more comfortable for the type of fishing I do.

Guess you could say I traded one small comfort for one other comfort
