I use superglue on my handties so they never fall apart. I lay them on the deck and put them back in the box once the dry out. Torn up soft plastic goes in a solo cup to be remelted into another bait later on.

I reuse if they’ll stay in place. If they’re torn, they go in the trash. I don’t ever throw the old ones in the lake....heard somewhere if a fish, turtle, or bird eat it, they can’t pass it and they die. I usually drop em in an empty bottle or can.

A funny thing happened one time when my friend P.R. took my dad fishing. P.R. will use 10 different colors during an outing and when he’s done with it, he pitches it in the bottom of the boat. They found a honey hole one time and Dad went to tearing ole P.R. up! He asked Dad what color he was using and Dad said “I don’t know.....something I picked up out of the bottom of your boat!” Just whipped the man’s butt in his own boat with his own lure.....yep, that’s my Pop!

Same here, messy boat means a clean lake.

If I'm switching colors with jig heads that have a wire barb or screw lock to hold the plastic, I will just cut the line, toss them in the box and re-rig with a new head.

On jigs with a conventional lead barb, I'll pull the plastic off and put it back in the bag, they don't seem to tear up the plastics as badly.

Torn plastics head for the trash, hand ties get reused. Lead gets reused too, melted if not usable anymore.

most of the time my baits are reused on plastics and handties IF they make it back up on dry land after they go swimming.
some hand ties and some plastics have had some miles on them before they quit , just saw a hand tie last night that has been in the water every year for around 8 years , faded out badly and limping around but still game if it was the bait that crossed my mind to drop .

Thats why I switched to the coil collar for plastics, the spring stayes in shape and plastic stays, even tube body's last a long time. Jigs I use till the hook is damaged.
