    Default FILLETING a crappie

Someone asked a while back to see how I fillet
In an effort to show how, I managed a short video
am I faster at it than in the video ,yes by about a mile or 2
can I go fast ,explain and do a video at the same time ....?
not if I want my ten fingers all good when its done

That's great, I will try this today! I don't recall if you have shared what knife you use on other threads, but, what knife do you use, lol? Blade length, flex, etc. if you know.

I have a bubba blade knife, hope it will work. I seem to recall it is a 9" flex model.

that knife and is my current favorite for a good long time now is a Billy Bay with 6 inch stainless highly flexible blade and past sharp by a country mile . really cheap knives , with exceptionally good steel ....not sure what they cost these days but I paid 3.99 for that one a few years ago .

I might mention that I feel the skeletal frame as I cut , any resistance or hard spots are NOT to be cut if you want a clean bone free fillet

I do the same way but bring the ribs along with the filet. Electric knife of course but always have to de-rib the filet.
Your method is awesome. Might try sometime if I don’t have so many fish to clean at one time.
My buddy saves the rib meat and picks out the bones but I don’t. He fries them separately for himself. Got too many grandkids that eat them around here on Saturdays.
I have to say that no one has ever gotten a bone in my filets for 40+ years.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Chuck.

I clean snapper that way for sure. But I take a somewhat more violent approach to panfish. Thanks for the video.

Bud thanks for taking your time to film cleaning a fish. Slower knife work is a pain. Thanks. Very unique execution, no messy guts to deal with. We have always cleaned our big saltwater fish your way but making one cut behind the head all the way down first and removing the ribs with everything else. That is only because the big fish backbones have such a large diameter you leave a bunch of meat just old school filleting. The commercial fisherman clean that way too, selling fillets by the pound they want more to make it to the scales.
