    Default Pit Stops

I often just roll up and do a pit stop here and there to see if the crappie are in a cooperative mood .
I find interesting things out with just a jig . It is very similar to being blind as most of you might have figured out .
Without the help of a boat or electronics one must understand many things about the who what where and why to ketch crappie with this method .
So here is the tip of the week for those of you that might try this endeavor .
Water was up around 8 feet and muddy , typical spring flooding conditions . The depth we found the crappie was around mid water column in 20 feet of water or more .
Crappie often use the lack of clarity in muddy water conditions as a form of stealth . They go pale and rise up and get pretty close to the mid to upper 1/3 of the water column .
The baitfish for reasons I am not sure about often are right on top of them .
My other buddy in a boat an hour away got this exact tip from me when he launched and not long after that ,sent me a photo with a bunch in the livewell and said he was tearing them up well above a brushpile in this same type of scenario .
So those of you out there in that mud water keep this tip in mind .
    KABOOM is the word
p.s. YES we managed to mow the spot out in the middle of nowhere in between showers before we hit the pit stop fish on the way home .
And yes there was some really early hog hunting in the mix as well, but thats another story right ....
