Default How to find an anchor

I dunno, tell me how, lol. My dang anchor came untied, makes me mad! I gotta learn an anchor knot. I am shocked it came untied.

So, I have Helix 7 at bow and Helix 9 at console. What type of image should I use to be able to 'see' this anchor? It's not deep, just a few feet. I thought I might could snag it. Otherwise, I am going swimming.

I lost a fishing rod a few years back, went to Basspro and bought a grapple hook gizmo. Looks like just a huge treble hook. I went back to the lake and estimated where it was and caught my rod n reel first cast!

I would think it would show up pretty good on side or down scan. Good luck!

I have a Helix 10. When using DI & SI I can see an old railroad bed in Harrison Bay...automobile and a bunch of tires in Grasshopper Creek. All depends on the angle of the dangle.

A suggestion. Say you are in four foot of water. Set your bottom depth to about fifteen foot. Using 2D and DI, scan the area and instead of watching the bottom image, watch for second and third echos on the screen. A metal anchor that shallow should give off multiple echos.
When located, have the wife jump overboard and swim down and pick up the anchor.

Harbor Freight I think has those salvage magnets for about $10. Learn to tie a bowline knot they come in handy a lot.

At four feet deep, sonar might not be useful. I would focus my efforts at capturing the rope.

As time goes by the rope will coil up upon itself, forming a nasty ball, but for now it is probably laying in a crooked line of some kind.

Even still, sometimes Davy Jone’s Locker gets his dues, and we move on a little smarter. I lost sun glasses last time out. LOL
Maybe they will bite this one……

Lol. Been there. I used to collect lost bobbers in the river until I bent over and lost my $200 Costas.

What do you mean, "set your depth?" I don't know much about fish finders, I just got this boat and its fancy graphs and am learning them. The only thing I know of that you can set is side scan width, like, set it to 100 ft wide on both sides of boat, or 15 ft or whatever. Is that what you mean? And you say "using 2D and DI," isn't that the same thing? Lastly, "second and third echoes," what does that look like? On DI, would it look like stacked images onscreen?

Someone mentioned try to grab the rope, I have the rope, as I said, it came untied. At the anchor. As for the bowline knot, that is what I tied it on with! I still can't believe it happened. I even had a tight overhand knot on the very end in case there was any threat or it coming untied. The rope is marine nylon rope.

As for bowline knot, I thought that is what I tied! I actually know that knot. I am leery of it now, even though I can't be positive that knot is what I tied.

If the anchor is magnetic. As mentioned I would use a magnet to find it. Amazon has some magnets for magnet fishing

Dang that sucks. I have never had a bowline come untied but have had to cut an anchor line that couldn't get to pull up. I don't use fancy anchors anymore. If live where you have a rock quarry and they run a hammer mill see if can get some used hammer mill tips.Unless it is real rough out one on the bow and stern hold me in place right well. That magnet Harbor Freight sells for about $10 is rated at 150 lbs of pull. If it is magnetic and you are lucky enough to find the same spot it may well work. Good luck.
