    Default Crappie and floating driftwood.

Pre-spawn saw them stacked under a log jamb at a bridge. Now that spawn is done do they return there or will they just disburse?

At my favorite lake the crappie stack up under the bridge after the spawn. There are shad by the thousands and they have no reason to go anyplace else.

Thanks Ketchn that was what I was wondering. After watching this spring and how they were hauling them out the light came on.

both black and white crappie will hold right under floating debris close to the surface especially if the water is turbid / muddy .
we have found them under a single floating big log in 25 feet of water ,4 foot below the surface all up and down the sides of the log .

Unfortunately many times I have a lot easier time of hooking the logs and debris than the fish!

I've caught them before, under floating debris .... in over 200fow (Herrington Lake)

Catch them quite often in Spring, (Green River Lake) when the rising water pulls driftwood & debris off the banks & the winds blow it into pockets. Usually it's male White Crappie setting up beds.

They go where the food is ...
when I was a kid we fished a place below the lake spillway. Drifts were the #1 place to catch fish.

I’ve found them under most any structure all year long. Water depth is the deciding factor. You won’t find them in hot water in the summertime under the structure they were in when the water was cooler. Good place to start though.
