Yep. You’re right.
When you just gotta keep catchn and catchn and catchn even with a full cooler to see how many changes you have to go through in a day to keep the fish interested in attacking a jig......
These silly fish will absolutely ignore a jig that seconds ago they would hunt down with the slightest glimpse of it.....
The ole saying of well they feed good early this morning or the bite got good at this time or shut down then is just due to the fisherman not putting the work in that it definitely takes to keep crappie interested in what they are offering.....
I know I've read several post that color don't matter and they feel it's all about profile or action to the bait but I'm seeing and still hold my belief that color is one of the most important things in catching crappie..... Well not THE most important but really high on the list, 1st is definitely fishing where there's crappie.....
What You Say?
One expert says color matters
One expert says color doesn’t matter
...... yet both are right
So question is how can both be right, and what should I expect to learn ?
Maybe they will bite this one……
Yep ... if you fishing where they ain't, you wasting yo time regardless of what color you're throwin' .... everything else is second to FINDING them !! And as we all know, and are reminded of again & again, them fish can go from "don't care what you throw, I ain't interested" to "anything you got in your box is fine with me" in a matter of seconds.
Never found color important except when it comes to water clarity. In algae stained water color brightness can make a difference much more than hue. Confidence in lures includes a limited color palette for each lure I use. I hate grape or emerald green for example for any lure and without proof they work less than other colors, never use either no matter the lure. I rarely use bright white, but then again I rarely use many of the hundreds of lures I own. Black is fine for a few lures I cast but for few others (hair jigs for example) which brings up the material a lure is made of and whether it is opaque or how transparent.
Tints and laminates are other considerations - color contrast being primary, hue secondary.
How a lure moves and how fast IMO are far more important than color, though color can emphasize the former. Color preference is affected by the more fish I catch on a particular lure of a color or colors and that lure on different waters. That's all she wrote! No need going crazy deciding which color or when to use it.
Ever try clear?:
It's a rare day I can't catch fish using a clear plastic lure.

To each their own but I will change colors, sizes, profiles, actions or none, scent and the list goes on.....
I'm consistently on Slab Crappie and will continue to help those that want the "facts" of how I consistently stay on good fish year round.....
Changing colors is a big part of that.....
That's the beauty of catching fish. There are few rules that apply to all waters - only facts that describe the catch that are not universal to all situations. To each their own but I will change colors, sizes, profiles, actions or none, scent and the list goes on.....
If we fished in the same boat at the same time, there is not doubt that both of us would catch fish regardless of colors or lures used once fish are located along with the rest such as presentation being the most important. Seen it far too many times.
is from experience and knowing thy water fished - also not universal to all waters. Always catching "Crappie Slabs" are not part of that equation and a pipe dream for public access waters that are overfished and overharvested. In those cases you're lucky to catch too many "Slabs" over 11" especially in the north were the growing season is much shorter and where there is an overpopulation of runts and sunfish.consistently stay on good fish year round
Describes me to T! (except scent) if just for the fun of seeing how many variations I can catch fish (of all species) on a single day. (Caught a 2 lb bass yesterday on a mini-stick and an 11" crappie on a much larger lure - colors totally different).I will change colors, sizes, profiles, actions or none, scent and the list goes on.....
