If it's anything like a chicken processing plant it is quick and messy

I always give live fish a rap on the head before cleaning.
This is beneficial when cleaning larger fish and eliminates cuts from flopping fish.

Yeah, don't like to clean them dead or alive, so I give them away, by that time they're dead.

I never, never, never, clean fish the day they are caught. I go home, back my beater into the shop, and get an adult beverage. Now crappie has gone 3 days here in winter before cleaning, most days they are cleaned, electric knife, the next day but sometimes two may pass. I fish hard when I go so too tired to clean anyway. To me filleting a good & stiff crappie is the easiest. Ketchn had some pictures where he left the ribs, I don't know how to do that. Just trim them out of the fillet after. If he can do in one step sign me up! I want to learn.

My crappie go on ice as soon as they are caught. I never clean them while they are alive. I find that catfish live forever without being in water. They just have a will to live like no other fish.

If I didn’t want to hurt them, maybe catch and release??But you’ve already hurt them. A sudden snatch and taking them from their family and friends??
