    Default 60" TM to Long????

I have an opportunity to get am Ulterra at a great price. The issue is it has a 60" shaft. I need a 45". Would the 60" be to long for a tracker 175 TF? Any opinions would be appreciated. The deaer also said he was checking with a Minn Kota service center about cutting down the shaft. Not sure about that one.

I got a trolling motor several years ago and they shortened the shaft. Did not have any problems with it.

No problem to cut the shaft but I’d really question if the ulterior would function properly with the shorter shaft. Have never worked on one so I don’t know how the stops work on it and how belt length would work out.

To answer your original question, yes, 60" is way too long. Even with a 45", you're probably going to have the head about 6-12 inches above the bow. Add another 15 inches to that and low side-arm casts are going to be difficult and you will be annoyed by it. Think about fighting a fish across the bow with a big stick right in the way.

Do you single pole fish ? even then you can put it on the opposite side to avoid . Deep water fishing would not be effected in my opinion .

It’s too big, but depending on your fishing style may not effect you. I have a 52” Powerdrive on a 1436 jon. Because I don’t fish from the bow (no deck) it is non issue. Also it seems shorter in person because it hangs off front of bow 6 inches. I mainly vertical jig. I was like you and got a longer shaft because it was the cheapest. It’ll work if you don’t cast off the bow much.

See my reply on your other post, I have an 18 ft Tracker Tundra. With the 45 inch shaft the prop will come out of the water in some waves and if I'm by myself i cannot fish in the back of the boat as the bow will rise too high

Too long. Consider the room it takes up when stowed also.

there is no such thing as to long on trolling motors
like stated rough waters will bring a fits the rig one up into the not water range in big waves
fighting a fish has never been an issue on the boat i ride in weekly with one he only sets down about half in the water 90% of the time
my 27 cents worth if you will
