That's a whale of a crappie. The thump never get's old.
I am FAT and she is OLD , but none the less we met up and danced a bit . On a 5 foot ultralight and 5 foot of line off the tip it went pretty fast to each other stepping on the other ones toes !
It was raining and I went down to my buds covered dock . The bite was a bit tricky ,but I managed around 50 in an hour plus a few .
One fish approaching 17 inches sure looked like an OLD specimen , the ole girl had plenty of fight in her though even all spawned out ,and took the jig deep in the roof of the mouth and in the end I got to hold her for a few photos before I gently released her .
I set the time delay on the phone and got a pretty good one of her ....
suitable for framing you might ask ? I would say not bad for a beginner ....
she was residing away from the main numbers of fish there and she was the ONLY bite i got in that area . Around 5 foot of water about 4.5 foot down and there she was . Sure goes fast and furious with such light tackle in such tight quarters . I dont suggest you try it unless every little thing is just right on your tackle .
MY FIRST 2 JIGS both went away first drops with large fish when I got there yesterday
a bit tight on the drag on the second fish and a worn spot on my mono on the first one .
such is how it goes sometimes and lesson learned i suppose maybe kinda
KABOOM is for sure the word
wonder how OLD she is ....? she looks ancient ....

KABOOM, now that is a monster fish. Good job there Ketchn. Didn't even have a lucky hat or shirt on either.

I could say soooo much, but it is a family friendly forum, and I do respect the elderly.
Yep, I remember ketchin one like her in a creek years ago. Yes was long and lean, so thin she had one side. But a great big ole head. Not sure I did her any favors letting her go, but man it would have been hard getting a meal off that bag of bones. It was a fun dance, but alas it didn't last long, she just didn't have the energy.
Nice fish brother and great story...

Still one dinner plate of a crappie. Glad you got her back to hopefully make some more copies! Nothing like using U/L gear to catch fish like that!

I managed a fish out of the Ag lake years ago where my avatar fish came out of that was 19 inches long !
that fish had the head of a 5 lb black bass on it ! and the body of a sad skinny sandbass
it came in like a wet rag and just looked at me with really sad eyes .
when i let it go it barely swam away and i knew it was it's last year in the water body .
that fish was no thicker than an 8 inch fish
