that fish was no thicker than an 8 inch fish
Maybe its final act was choking a cormorant to death. What a way to go!

I know I am fat and old but you didn’t have to tell everyone else, sheesh! What a beautiful fish, congratulations!

I think she might have spawned recently and was just tired from her efforts. Females that size have thousands of eggs, hopefully she has a couple more good years left. Releasing fish like that is a good thing in my opinion, all crappie over 14 inches that I catch are released and with some luck I might catch it again in a year or two when they are even bigger.

not sure if it helps the fish population and or general size , but it makes my day to see a big fish go on its way .
and who knows what its future holds , she might be someone else's biggest ever crappie .

It was raining and I went down to my buds covered dock . The bite was a bit tricky ,but I managed around 50 in an hour plus a few .
One fish approaching 17 inches sure looked like an OLD specimen , the ole girl had plenty of fight in her though even all spawned out ,and took the jig deep in the roof of the mouth and in the end I got to hold her for a few photos before I gently released her .
I set the time delay on the phone and got a pretty good one of her ....
suitable for framing you might ask ? I would say not bad for a beginner ....
she was residing away from the main numbers of fish there and she was the ONLY bite i got in that area . Around 5 foot of water about 4.5 foot down and there she was . Sure goes fast and furious with such light tackle in such tight quarters . I dont suggest you try it unless every little thing is just right on your tackle .
MY FIRST 2 JIGS both went away first drops with large fish when I got there yesterday
a bit tight on the drag on the second fish and a worn spot on my mono on the first one .
such is how it goes sometimes and lesson learned i suppose maybe kinda
KABOOM is for sure the word
wonder how OLD she is ....? she looks ancient ....

I'd add smart to her definition, to be able to survive as long as she has & although you describe her as rather slender, I see no noticable blemishes, nice fish no matter how you slice it, WTG!!

she was likely in the 2 and half range , not really in poor shape , just not really prime . if she had a pre spawn pot belly and a bit more in the double camel hump area on her back , i would have likely wanted to weigh her for grins .
i think she probably eclipsed the lake record by a few , it currently stands at 2.3
