Spider Rigging questions

Fishing 6FOW and less I use a single 1/4 oz jig head. Fishing deeper than that I use 2-1/4 oz jig heads. Sometimes I feel like I need more weight.

I use just enough weight to keep my jig or minnows from floating up at the speed I think I need to be. Depends on the day and what the fish want. When they want it fast I use more weight. When they want it slow I use less.

Less chances of the lead weight normally used to get hung in brush ...

I used 3/8 ounce yesterday because the water was slick. I can always go heavier if conditions require. To my way of thinking the lightest you can work with will be best for detecting bites. Of course I am brand new so......
