    Default Live scope Question

How many hours would you say it takes to prefect the use of lives scope to out fish your old methods like side pulling, spider rigging , pulling cranks . Lots of people voicing opinions that have no clue to the hours some have spent perfecting this Technique .

That would depend on how good/successful you were with your "old" methods. You can have the LS system showing cover & fish like it's a dang laptop, but you still gotta present your lures to them like "they" want.

I've seen a lot of fish hanging around my jigs on my LS/93sv, but don't always feel the thump & sometimes I don't even know they have it in their mouths until I raise the rod tip. Sometimes a little jiggle with the rod tip will bring them screaming in towards the jig, and sometimes it'll send them dashing for cover. Sometimes a color or size change (up or down) will get them chewing, sometimes nothing you do interests them.

I don't have Livescope to "outfish" my old methods, but to complement them & add to them. Just because I have the LS doesn't mean I'll stop casting, Pushing, or any other method I want to use. To me it just means I won't be slinging jigs to every piece of cover I know of, or find .... unless the screen tells me there's fish on that cover.

But to answer your question ... it don't take "hours", more like months !! But then, how long does it take to perfect those "old methods" you mentioned ??

I agree with CP....For me I'm using the Livescope more to enhance my previous methods of Crappie fishing.I've taken some trips with it and did the single pole method, and I have gone multipole spider rigging with it as well, and in both cases the LS made it a better experience out there.I'm far from a Livescope expert and I still have alot of time to put in to improve how I'm using it and processing all the info the Livescope actually is giving you out on the water(with it each trip is truly a learning experience).Since actually getting and using the Livescope I have nothing but total respect for these Livescope Masters you see winning tourneys and stuff, they must have put a ton of time and effort in to get to that level they are at with using the LS.

Don’t know how many hours it will take because I’ve only got about 40 hours of seat time using mine.
I started catching fish vertical fishing the second time out.
I will add that I spent countless hours (months) reading and researching everything about the system prior to buying. I was a pushing minnows guy.
The Garmin tech told me that I knew more about the product than people that had owned it for 2 years.(doubt that) Helped me a lot but doesn’t replace seat time and practical experience.
After a very windy outing a couple weeks ago I pulled the trigger on an Ultrex because the window in vertical fishing is very small and I couldn’t stay in the fish. Hope the spot lock will help that.
To answer your question, like the other guys said, it depends on how well versed you are with the electronics you have and how much work you are willing to put in. I plan to live on the water this year and fish at least 5 days a week and hope I get better and better.

Cannot give you a definite number of hours because I am still learning. However, I do not plan to change my preferred way to fish (single pole and casting). It has helped me eliminate water/cover where there are no fish present. As said above it takes many hours to learn other techniques/presentations. Using LiveScope is no different. Live Scope, to me, is a powerful tool to help you locate fish but as CP said above finding them does not always mean they will bite. I grew up thinking that if you put a jig or minnow in front of a crappie, it would most likely bite. LiveScope has shown me that many times they just look at the bait or swim away. Time required to learn a new skill/technique differs among individuals. My question was...Is the results worth the investment of time? I believe from my experiences so far that it will be. Good fishing...

Since I have not perfected the use of live scope I have no idea how many hours it would take. I have owned it for over two years and I still learn new things every time I use it. I know a lot more about crappie habits now but I still don't know how to get them to bite when they have lockjaw. I don't know why some crappies will run from a jig when you drop it near them and others will run for it from 6 feet away.

By the time I learn how to use Livescope something new and better will come out and I will have to start the learning process all over again.

Starting to question myself why I even got livescope. I very rarely use it on my home and area lakes as I’ve spent years learning fish migration on them and regular sonar gets the job done. I don’t have to chase fish and don’t have standing trees in any of the lakes. It’s not a tool for me. It’s just a game. Probably won’t put the time in needed to become really good with it.
