Does that work as a marinade? Cold Snap T2 toothpick hook remover is another option.

Set the hook as soon as possible, that will solve the problem.

I’ve caught trout and smallmouth bass before that has had a piece of the shank and eye of the hook passing thru anal vent.

I assume the hook point and bend of hook that is in contact with the fish dissolves and the rest passes.

As a result I always cut the line as tight as possible if deep hooked.

I can't even remember the last time that I've gut hooked a fish...I use large swimbaits 3 inches and over year-round, and Sickle hook jig heads.
I use 1/0 for Crappie and Saugeye/Walleye, and 5/0 and larger for Bass.
I also use braid, the hooks are always in the top lip or mouth.

With bluegills, switch to a 1/64-1/32 jig head instead of just a hook. I promise your bite rate will stay very high and the fish won't swallow your bait anymore! They suck it in until their mouth hits the jig head and 90º hook eye and that keeps them from taking it any deeper most times.

I dont think I've ever had a crappie swallow a hook.

With large hooks, you can go in the gill plate (under all the gills, dont touch those!) and grab the hook as close to the bend as possible and rotate the pliers/hemostats to remove the hook. If its even too deep for that, then just cut the line and toss it back. If it comes back up to the surface and its a legal fish, in the cooler it goes.. Even if you arent keeping fish, I betcha most times you will see someone on the water or at the ramp that would gladly take the fish off your hands... but if not, well its still your responsibility as an angler to make use of a fish you accidentally kill.

Often times a fish will still live with a hook in its stomach, the stomach will repair the damage and the hook will rust apart enough from the acids to be passed by the fish. As long as it can still eat during this time, it will survive.

I caught a bass that had a khale style hook protruding from his anus. There was a large sore there and it was coming out bend first. I grabbed it and it practically fell out. It did not rust out, rather got slimy. The fish looked relieved as I put him back.
Maybe they will bite this one……
