    Default Would You Rather?

Would you rather crappie fish a lake during the spawn with the water 5 to 6 feet above normal or 3 to 4 feet below normal?

I used to love the spawn . Shallow was the deal . No longer . Tend to fish the mouth of creeks and creeks running from deep to shallow . It's all about catching those large females . Care nothing about catching short males .

I would say below normal, because it would concentrate the fish into a smaller area.

Below normal. The eggs will have a better chance of surviving. If the level comes up, they’ll still be good but if it drops, not so good a chance they’ll still be in the water.

drought conditions for me , reduce the barrel size and hit em like you mean it
low water conditions are ALWAYS , WAY better for me during the spawn .
coupled with water that isnt muddy from rising yes sir
that and the fact that the fish will follow the higher waters as they rise instead of holding still .
it gives you access to spots that you cant fish if the water is up, from the bank as well
and the fish care not and still spawn in the same general area
of course some want to deal with flooded grass and such
but i love a smooth gravel bottom without so much as a stick in the area myself
and some nice water clarity and stability .....

X3....I'll watch all the other boats beat the banks while i load up on sows. But to answer your question, low water over flood every day.

Yes. As long as I am fishing.

My favorite crappie lake is hard to fish during the spawn when it is flooded. The fish have thousands of new spawning grounds and they are hard to get to. It's great for the fish because they have record spawns but it is much harder for the fisherman.
