I wouldn't be too skeptical. They probably need the motor serial, trailer VIN, and the boat HIN.

They shouldn't really need a photo of the titles, but there is really no information on there that isn't easily found elsewhere just by Googling your name.

If they want you to do a history report from a website that they provide, don't, it's a common scam, the history report website will steal your credit card info.

I bought a used boat only a year old through a finance company and they got copies of all that but they got it directly from seller as well as sending out an appraiser.

When I listed my Flats Cat and Motorhome for sale on Craigslist numerous ask for photos of registrations & titles, ALL SCAMMERS! Once your paid states like Florida must have the original registration on a out of state boat. I had to Red Label the registration to the purchaser. Also all HIN numbers must match. Here in MS not so bad.

The buyer may be looking to see if there are any recoded liens showing in the title. If there are unreleased liens showing on the title, then take your title to your local courthouse so it can be stamped released. A call to the clerks office may be suffice in verification of release liens as well but the clerk needs the title to stamp Lien Released on it. You may ask the buyer to send you a copy of their license before providing the information they’re requesting.

I asked the buyer to send the info for their bank, and I would make contact with them, after I verify it's a real bank. He replied with, I bought a different boat. True or not? So last night I drank two beers, and respooled four reels.

    Thanks all !

What they said above. I mean what are they going to steal off of a picture of a title..?

Illinois. We title boats and trailers. Although, a year or two ago, some changes where made to the titling process for boats. I do not recall what those changes where.
