Cast out and reel back steadily — just like in the videos you watched.
Talking about the Bobby Garland Baby Shad and Bass Assassin Tiny Shad type of baits. I usually cast out, let it fall and twitch them off the bottom. I was watching some you tube videos this morning and some of them appeared to be casting it out and just reeling them in with a steady retrieve. How do you fish them?
You can work them just about any old way and catch fish.
I usually work them back like a pendulum when casting, but also fish them vertically, raising them up slowly through a brushpile and pausing, holding totally still.
What they said.
I count down. Around 1 foot per second. When hit desired depth, slow steady retrieve.

Good tips. Thanks. The guess the fish will tell you what they want.

I have fished the Bobby Garland the same way all have mentioned above. One thing I have learned about them that no other shad style bait will do, when using a 1/32 ounce jig if you get them threaded on just perfect. When the retrieve is stopped the bait will fall with a side to side rocking motion this is due to the triangular shape the bait has that no other has, and makes a huge difference in my catch ratio ( when the bite is tuff ). It is not easy to get the bait hooked on so this happens and larger jigs seems to nullify this action some...
They’ll work with any presentation you choose to use. Just get em in front of the fish.

All presentations will use shad style lures. (Slip float, Vertical Jig, jig and plastic with no float, trolling etc.) The key is making sure your hook comes through the center back of the bait when you thread it on so it is swimming correctly. The second key factor is YOUR CONFIDENCE in the lure you are using.
