Awesome!! Man I'm hoping to find something like that this year. Sort of missed the good action last year. That new Christmas tree jig is pretty!
Let me tell ya we rapid fired them after work yesterday .....FULL AUTO !
about had to pour water over my Shimano I tell ya ....
Went into a spot Sk and I visited 2 years ago ....
never visited it last year , sometimes I am just to busy to hit all of them .
Almost went last week with Sk but was just to busy yet again .
Yesterday I told H at work , you want to visit a spot that's a hike with me after work ?
He is much younger than I and has lots more go late in the day than me and said SURE .
I told him we will need to make VERY long casts and the fish will be pretty large .
Bring lots of floats and then he said hey I need some more of those little baits .So i gave him a hand full of limits tackle "some a dat" as you may remember I gave away on here a while back .
He used that bait and I opted for my new handtie in the "Christmas tree" coloration . We tried lots of depths and areas and just couldn't get on them , not even a peck . I showed him every spot there that was productive in the past except one .
Last spot on my list and about ready to call it a skunk we went to a big open water area . I told him way off shore is a rock pile with some old tires in it . If they are not there its time to make the hike back to the trucks . I tried my best to remember exactly how far out it was and about where as it isnt huge and sort of difficult to find off the bank . Well sure enough we made a few casts and then POW my float went down ! I said adjust left and a bit further out to H and man did he hook into a beauty !
Well long story short the last hour before dark we stood side by side and whacked em fast and furious 2 at a time .
EVERY CAST ! epic fun to say the least and to be sure big slabs at long range off the bank is about way better than any crappie ketchn I know of .
Nothing I have ever done to ketch a crappie comes close to a float rig WAY out there and it just goes down right after it hits the water ! Multiple large males took to the air on the hook sets and to be sure a big colored up male white crappie in a bad mood doing a cartwheel 60 feet off the bank in the air on the hook set is about heart stopping big excitement !
these fish were dedicated to swallowing the baits and we gave 2 different folks a good number each before we hiked out. The man who came over by us never did ketch one ,but to be sure he had a nice stringer when we said bye . Another guy showed up and we gave him a few as well . fish sizes were pretty similar ,13 inch fish seemed to dominate the pack and it was around 75% males and 25% females .
The fights that took place and the reel drags singing that tune capped off just how much fun it was , very similar to surf fishing and yes it was darn windy out there !
H said you know , now that you showed me this spot and technique I will go back EVERY day right ..... I laughed and said yeah I figured that .
But i told him this as we hiked , its only like this at that spot about 3 to 4 weeks total in a year . By the end of April it will be full of little crappie ,yellow bass and other less desirables .
KABOOM is in fact the word off the back
p.s. about 3 foot under a float in around 5 to 6 feet of water
