I'm with Ga Hunter about the Alumacraft Jon Boat. Excellent boat.

I suggest a kayak for fishing solo. I catch lots of fish out of my Wilderness Systems Pamlico 120. It fits in my shortbed truck fine with the tailgate dropped. Plus, unlike the pelican boat and other bass buggies, I can fish rivers, creeks, and large lakes if i want. No need for a heavy battery, trolling motor, or trailer.

If you want to take more people with you, I'd suggest a good canoe like Old Town or Mad River for the same reasons as the kayak.

I've got a canoe, kayak, and 14ft Jon w/ 9.9 Merc. I use them all, though the kayak gets the most use, and is the most fun.

For your situation a small 10 or 12ft Jon might work fine for you if you don't mind lugging the battery, trolling motor, and heavy boat out of the truck. It would be wise to invest in a trailer if that's your chosen route.

Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.

And we act like this Nightstalking thing is new.

For some excitment, read the next verse. A special guest arrived, they filled their coolers and had a fish fry on the beach...in the morning. My kind of people.- Bowfin

    Default loved it

I loved mine until I got money saved for a 16 deep-v. One tip I can give you is to put 1" thick X 4" wide X 7" long (w/ tapered ends) UHMW Plastic on each corner for drag wear. I used marine goop adhesive and it worked great! After 3 years of dragging it on concrete, gravel, grass and dirt, the bottom of the boat was still like new. And the plastic was wore very little.

I've had my Sportsman III model for about 12 years. Have literally caught thousands of fish in it, wouldn't trade it for nothing even though I have a "big" boat now too. I have put numerous holes in it over the years due to different circumstances but its nothing that a little plastic mesh and epoxy can't fix . I have done many modifications (transducer mount, light pole, o.b. bracket, rewired to 6 guage for trollin motor, etc.). I store it on a couple saw horses that are tied together with a pair of 2x4's. When I slide it out of the truck, I turn it upside down and prop it up with a board on the front end so that any water that might have seeped in will drain out the little hole on top of the transom. I believe I paid ~$500 new from Allied sporting goods when they were still open. I'd say for around a grand you could have you a dandy boat.

Someone asked about a small motor, I have a couple of 4.5 Rudes That I might part with.

Hi all, I'm thinking about getting a plastic boat. See this link:

Portable Lightweight Jon John Boat - - $200 (Winchester, KY)

It comes apart and turns into a luggage carrier. I haven't seen one like that before. What do you all think? I don't have a truck so being able to strap it to the top of my car would be great.

My wife and i use a 10' bass hunter. you are definitely restricted, but we usually pick a creek off the main lake and just fish in there.

I went and looked at it today, and I must say I was impressed. I think it had "poly port-a-boat" on it, so I assume that's the model, although when I search for that nothing like this boat comes up. The plastic is heavy-duty, it seemed really sturdy. It's two separate pieces that you push together, forming 2 6-8 inch slots on either side. The slots have teeth in them, and there are two pieces of plastic with teeth made to fit into the slots that you push down in there to hold the two pieces together. Once both the plastic holder-together-ers were in there the whole thing was very sturdy and tight, didn't feel like there was any play to it. Planning on going back and picking one up on Friday.

A buddy of mine has a 10' Pelican and it works great. We use it to get to all those out of the way places where you can't back in a trailer. Everybody knows a couple of those places you would love to fish but no place to put in a boat.

Check around your area and see if you have a Dicks Sporting Goods around. We got our Pelican in early spring for $499. That was wired up for a trolling motor too. It is the cheapest price we could find by far for the 10' model. Dicks had a bunch of 2009 boats that they did not sell so they have them marked cheap. I still saw that deal last time i went by Dicks. As a matter of fact, they still have that price up on their website right now.

Pelican Bass Raider 10E Fishing Boat *Dicks Sporting Goods Exclusive* - Dick's Sporting Goods

I can guarantee you wont find a cheaper new 10' Pelican within $100 of that price.

Tractor supply company and rural king handle those or something similar at most of their stores. I saw ten footers at tsc the other day for 499

Bass Hunter makes two models that are rotocast. the seam between the top and bottom is eliminated. supposedly a source of leaks. in the end that is why i chose bass hunter.
