Sometimes the water can be high that time of year and I would suggest having at least one 10ft rod in case you need to reach over all the floating debris that's near the bank but all depends on how you like to fish and the conditions.
I've fished when you had to drop your jig on top the floating sticks several times until it would create a hole and sink, then you would pull the fish back through the floating junk - it was pretty fun.
To me rod and reel don't matter much but go for something light so your arm don't get tired and I use braid.
