They're not on the Pflueger's website and everywhere I've checked online is sold out.

I bought 4 new Diawa XD40’s last year. The were very smooth, but no matter what brand of 4lb line I put on them, I was having trouble with line coiling/twist and it wouldn’t pick up the line on the retrieve without raising the rod to pull out the slack or pulling it out by hand. I sold them and switched to the Lew’s SUS1C which has a dual line pickup and no more problems.

keep slack out of line will really help pickup. Try some 2# braid. I have diawa 40's but much prefer the Pfluger president.

Are the Lew's reels smooth?

I believe they were just as smooth as the Diawa.
