Question Trying to get Winter Crappie in the PNW dialed in

Thread title pretty much says it all. Trying to figure out how to catch crappie in the winter here in SW Oregon. Been reading post here and elsewhere and while most folks seem to say "go deeper (10' to 20' or deeper) and slower (use a slip bobber), and smaller", others say "meh, slower sure, smaller maybe, but not necessarily that deep". Wondering what y'all s thoughts are on the subject.
Any suggestions or ideas (lure colors/types, bait, etc.) to increase my odds are appreciated.

Don't fish your area but deeper is not always the answer. I've caught fish with water temps around 45 degrees less than 3 feet under the surface using a bobber - ok Float for all those guys!

First you have to find them, that is the hardest part and where good electronics come into play, once found catching is the easy part. I am ice fishing before I wet a line I will drill maybe up to 60 holes in the area I wish to fish then take my electronics and check each hole, if nothing is found I may change areas and repeat the process. If I had Humminbird 360 I could drill far fewer holes and and check using the 360 to if there are any fish within 100 feet of each hole, if not then drill a few more holes check them and so on and so on until fish are found. There is no use fishing when there are no fish in the area you are fishing.

Many times when fish do not want to hit using small baits and you can see them on your electronics then going bigger and more aggressive can be the answer. Many times I need to hole hop catch a fish then move to another hole catch a fish and have to move to a different hole, this all depends on the bite. There are times one hole will catch all the fish..
