Maybe You Know The Secrets I Seeketh
It’s cold out there, so maybe you have a little time for me.
I plan to push and pull. Later I will learn to jig single rods. I have decided that four rods would be the most I would want to manage. Not sure that they make rods that do both styles of fishing well enough.
For pushing:
It seems that the idea is to add as small a sinker as possible and move slowly and detect any anomalies. Some rods can do this with 1/2 ounce, some two ounces. Assuming that the fish takes my jig, is this difference in weight a big deal ?
!6 foot rods present jigs two feet earlier than 14 foot rods. Is this enough of an advantage to want the longer rods ?
I will be fishing alone most times, and netting fish is probably not going to happen. So for lifting fish into the boat, should I favor backbone over sensitivity ?
I may need to add more weight to increase speed or deal with conditions, and are rods very sensitive to me adding say a two ounce sinker when most use 1/2 ounce ?
I see the rod makers offer replacement tips. What are the most common ways these rods get broken ?
Pulling:
I have rod holders that will allow five rods out the back. Two straight out the sides, two at half angle and one straight back. I imagine any length of rod would suffice, but what considerations should be taken into account ?
Can I use my pushing rods for pulling, or will I be buying a set just for this purpose ?
So right now I am thinking that stiffer will be better for me and am looking at the Southern Crappie regular and the heavy T version. From B&M the Trolling Heavy version, the regular trolling and the Coleman & Copes. Want to keep cost to about $350 or below until later when I will know exactly what I want.
I have a new boat and have been rigging up rod holders. Bought four, mounted them, unmounted them, put in box in garage. Next up was six holders which will be mounted to the stainless bars on my center console seat. Mounting to the aluminum floor using screws is not for me ever again. Too loose and gets worse as you adjust them. I really like the stainless cup style mounted to the seat. Rock solid for trolling for large species as well. Have some Elite rod holders on their way, for up front. but the postman has them and I think he is fondling them. My plan is to attach a heavy plastic to the floor and screw them into that. These will adjust to fit me as I sit in my perch.
Spring will be here before we realize, and I know it is alot to ask someone to recommend rods to total strangers, but I really need to understand the concepts. What the rods can and cannot do and I will figure my way through. Of course there is the forum search function but I am no closer to understanding after accessing it. The makers do not list much information either and seem to expect people to already know what they need.
BTW...my Crappie sauces arrived in fine fashion- thanks.
Maybe they will bite this one……
