Default Blade bait over jigs for vertical fishing crappie?

Anybody prefer a blade bait over a jig when fishing vertically for crappie? I've had some recent success using blade baits for bottom hugging bass and interested in trying it for crappie. The blade bait seems to have a lot of action. And those Silver Buddy's sure have gone up in price!

Didn’t do well on blades last fall but kastmaster jigging spoons put some big crappies in the box for me. Gonna try them both if we get decent ice this winter.

But I prefer jigs over them both for vertical jigging.

I've tried them several times since beginning of fall and didn't catch any crappie, so not sure the crappie are big fans. Perch and bass seem to like them better than crappie, but it probably depends on your particular body of water.

I have had some success with small spoons vertical jigging for deep crappie but I still prefer jigs.

I got schooled on blade baits this weekend. Went with a friend that had about a 3"one on. Dropped it to the bottom and started jigging it off the bottom about a foot real slow and letting it fall. I thought to my self he will never catch a crappie in 37 degree water 30 ft deep doing that. After he caught 2 to my 0 in about 5 minutes I changed my mind lol. I have found out over the years you can learn from fishing or watch what someone else is doing something new that no one else is doing. I still caught them dead sticking plastics but will have a blade bait on a rod next time out.

Small flutter baits will get the job done. I like jigging with a 1" gay blade.
