    Default Lake Fork Report

Lots of big fish being caught , many upper 2 range fish and a few even over 3
not me of course , I just went and got to watch .....
the good news is we did have fun and it was a learning experience bigtime for me .
I dont like deep water ketchn and really dont like 10 foot rods ....BUT ....
when in Rome dont ya know
Now it wasnt like I didnt get to ketch some footballs , it was more like being on the Dallas Cowboys team and only getting to watch the playoffs ...
When fish are 30 feet deep in 35 feet of water I am out of my realm of expertise . Using a 10 foot rod with braid and a 1/4 ounce jighead with a number 1 hook and a 3 inch bait is not something I know much about for sure .
and trying to understand livescope at that depth and how the bait pendulates and how to get it in front of a fish is not all that easy i promise . of course even a blind hog will find some acorns and it was interesting to see lone roaming big dots and chase them down and get a SERIOUS thump when you got in that groove of it all .....
i used some sort of 10 foot long Jenko rod and a large split tail Limits tackle plastic .....
AND it was rough start ,,,we broke off the transducer mount the second stop on unseen timber
before we even hooked a fish and had to make a 1.5 hour detour to repair it ....
and we looked and looked way to shallow in 20 or so foot of water for about an hour plus and so it went .
i suggested strongly to look deeper and you and i know sk would be looking along the river channel bro ....deeper and deeper we went and at around 32 feet deep there began to be fish ...scattered badly .but looked to be crappie to me ....
around 35 foot deep seemed to have the most fish and it was work to find some for sure .
at around lunchtime after starting before 5 am i boated the first fish of the day
then a second fish of the day not long after .....and in the groove we went ...
bite was consistent in that if you found a fish and got a bait in front of it , there was a distinct likely hood it would charge it and bite !
sure was different and it was a gloomy misting foggy day and the water and the outside temps matched up well at around 46 to 48 .
NE wind steady at around 9 mph.....
left with a nice ice chest and went over to Jerry Hancock's place to drop off jigheads and shoot the breeze .
Never met Jerry and it was fun , he is the real deal no doubt about it .
    He said I know you....
your that fella that bank fishes for crappie all the time ...KABOOM right ?
i tipped my hoody back to reveal my KABOOM and said yes sir ....
we laughed a bit and man he is he a wealth of knowledge on his game .
this is not an ad for him but if you want to go on a good trip at Fork ....
his bigfish yesterday was 3.08 and he had several in the upper 2 range as well .
i highly suggest you look him up ....runs his trips based on ketchn fish and not time slots
i liked his train of thought on guiding customers bigtime and his demeanor in general .
made it home late no doubt and when the wife said she misses you ....
she was talking about the new puppy dog not her .....
and KABOOM is still the word
Thanks so much Steve for the boat ride and the generous amounts of new baits ....
stay tuned yawl , i will start a new giveaway on some Limits Tackle plastics soon
p.s. get this ....NEVER lost EVEN one jig yesterday ....a new personal best for me in a lake full of wood

deep water fishing for crappie is not something I have done much or any good at. whole different world but then again to many on here bank fishing with a 12 foot rod and fixed bobber is strange for them and what many of my crappie guru's at home lake whack the biguns with.

great day on what is a great crappie lake. for some reason LF crappie pics show up on my page on FB quite a bit and they are always biguns.

    Nice report!
    Your in my realm now!!
Caught fish 45-50 feet deep in 65 to 85 FOW.
Last 3 weeks they have gone deep, on my lake.
It does take some experience to make it work that deep.
I get jealous when people are fishing 10’ deep! LOL

lake fork has some pretty nice size crappie come out of it on a regular basis , i never seem to really kill numbers of them on my visits , but i typically get to bring home a few real healthy fish .
most of our fish this visit were all in the 1.5 to the low 2 range ....

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

It took me a long time getting use to a larger jig head but once you see one in a crappie mouth you realize it is not that large. I use mostly 3/16 heads now and 2.5 plastics. Those Fork and Pines crappie are at a whole different level.

i was amazed a black crappie in the 12 to 13 inch range would try to swallow a 3.125 inch bait like they did ....
and i mean hit it like a train ....
