If your good with running a trolling motor then 100% I would buy livescope . I fish alot and livescope has upped my catches as far as size . I run my transducer on the trolling motor to chase the big ones suspended.

I am in the same boat . Was told boat control is essential to get most of live scope . Would lean toward spot lock but haven't ruled out either . Wish I knew which would quit first . lol they are both renewable .

Boat control is critical with Livescope, as it was before Livescope. But spot lock isn’t going to give the boat control you really need to get the most out of Livescope. Really depends on what your goals are though and what type of fishing you will be doing. If it’s to catch more big fish or if you have any inkling of tournament fishing it’s a no brainer to choose Livescope. Spot lock will also be useless chasing big fish in open water. But if your fishing a lake with plentiful crappie on brush and are already decent with current electronics and just want to make things a little easier to stay around the spot then spot lock might be way to go.

I'm thinking livescope, when my son goes with me I always make him run the trolling motor. Isn't that what son's are for, to take care of the old man! Plus I sort of use that as rent paid for my little boat being at his house so he can go whenever he wants to. Even when he goes without me, that should never happen. Live scope vs spot lockLive scope vs spot lock Every now and then he takes his father in law, still feel left out when my boat is at the lake and I'm not. Lol

I have never used livescope, but I have a Terrova with spot lock. I'd say upgrade the trolling motor. It isn't JUST spot-lock, but the ability to use a wireless remote to steer and power the trolling motor. Want to troll from the back of the boat? Set a heading, set the power, and let the trolling motor handle things.

IIf you like a foot pedal, skip the Terrova as the electronic foot pedal is nothing like the cable foot pedals and I dislike the electronic ones.

Spot-lock itself is actually ho-hum for me. Set the spot-lock and it has to go through some electronic gymnastics before settling in. It will move one way, then turn and go full power, then move this way and that way until it settles in. If you're casting 40 yards away, it's not so bad, but with ultralight jigs, you just don't get to cast 40 yards. I'd rather spot-lock just ease itself into position even if it takes twice as long, but never get above 3 or so on speed unless it's windy and 3 won't accomplish the task.

I don't expect to ever have enough money to pay for livescope. I'm too cheap.

Livescope will let you know if fish are where you are fishing. Won’t make them bite but otherwise your fishing in the blind. All other electronics are showing you the history of what your transducer traveled over. Not live.
You either throw out a buoy or mark it on the screen, go to maps, then go to that mark hoping the fish are still there.
Livescope will save lots of time.
Mount on independent pole instead of trolling motor shaft.
    My opinion only.
    Chuck.

I bought spot lock first, then LiveScope a year later. I love LiveScope as it shows the level the fish are holding. If I had to choose just one it would be spot lock first, then LiveScope.

Spot lock for me. LS would and is a second choice for me. Ultrex offers a lot of good things other than spot lock but I love the spot lock feature the most. Can use the remote and be anywhere on the boat while fishing. I fish alone quite a bit and get tired and sometimes sit in back of boat with legs stretched out--just relaxing.

LS would be nice but I'm comfortable with my 93sv plus, one at console and one on bow, and feel like I can wait for LS. Buying something that expensive for my boat needs a lot of thought. Not too tight just a little LOL

The issues with current LS has with ghost tree will soon be history as I feel confident Garmn will get that fixed. So I would and am waiting for the new to wear off before putting a crowbar in my wallet LOL
