    Default Weiss lake or reelfoot?

Wanting to take a little family trip. I live with all women. They have agreed to go on a fishing trip with me. Looking for suggestions on places to stay and a place that has shopping and women stuff to keep them busy. What’s a nice crappie getaway?

We went to Reelfoot last summer. For what you have stated, I would would suggest Weiss lake. I don't know anything about it, honestly I've never heard of it, but I can tell you that nothing you need is near Reelfoot. It is a 40 minute ride to the nearest city and the only shopping was Walmart. We stayed at the state park campground and it was nice. There were 2 (I think) restaurants there, not counting the one at the resort. The locals don't seem to care for tourists, and know matter what you've read online, don't expect a good fishing experience. The "bait shops" we found were quick to inform us the the bait they sold was for the local guides and that we needed to hire them if we wanted bait. Our waitress asked us why we were eating at that particular restaurant, and if we knew where the Sonic and DQ were. The Asian carp have decimated the gills and crappie. In 4 days we caught 6 catfish. All anyone was catching was catfish.

I have been to Weiss a few times. As far as something for the women to do, there is not much there. It would take at least an hour + to drive to Chattanooga where they wouldn’t be bored. Crappie fishing is not as good as it used to be. If you are going May-September the pleasure boats and jet skis make it a miserable time fishing.

There’s not much shopping or stuff for women to do at either one of them places unless they want to drive a hour or so.

Summer is not the best time to go to Reelfoot if you are wanting to fish for crappie. Late spring or fall is much better. I have been there many times and never had problems finding a good place to eat and the tackle shops were good. Always found plenty of bait. Tiptonville is small and its true that there are not many fancy places to shop. We do our shopping somewhere else before we go fishing. WE have always had good luck there and enjoyed our experiences. Never been to Weiss Lake.

So Reelfoot has an Asian carp problem??? I didn’t know that and sure hate to hear it. Crazy, but living in West Tennessee, I’ve never fished there. Always wanted tp try it, just never did being in the vicinity of North Mississippi.

A better choice might be Guntersville. Good fishing for many species. VERY pretty. Less than an hour to Huntsville so more things for the women to do. The state park there has a lodge with amazing views (but it is not on the water - up on the hill). They have nice cabins right on the water.

If you live where your profile indicates what’s wrong with Ky Lake?
I’ve been to Reelfoot a bunch of times and Weiss Lake also.
I would choose Ky Lake over both.
Lake Eufaula if you want to drive a little. Monster Crappie there.
I’ve fished Chickamauga about 4-5 times but was fishing for the green carp. That was before getting hooked on crappie. Big crappie there also.
Hope this confused you even more. Lol
