Mstr Dan, others may have nicer boats but that isn't always feasible. My parents had a 10 foot Jon boat with a small 12V trolling motor. I would venture to say they caught as many fish as anyone and they enjoyed every catch. Be proud of your boat, looks like it could be a catching machine!!!

My grandfather built several of his own boats and the last boat he had was a small aluminum one that barely carried us without sinking. My fondest memories of him are watching him fish and take us out with him. I am proud of what I have and remember. Boats, rids and reels, a d all the stuff we may use are tools. Our memories and the enjoyment we have using them are what matters. Plus helping our kids make memories.

I really like looking at the older boat pictures as they do show craftsmanship, thought and the pride that is put into them regardless of what type of restoration or even just making them water worthy.

I agree with Jack, well said. Both my grandfathers were gone before I came around, so you have a wealth of knowledge in many ways. I’ve had scruffy boats and nice boats, fast and slow, some with just a small TM. Memories and enjoyment is what it’s all about. The friendships made with fishing friends along the way too. I currently have two boats. A 17’ center console Carolina skiff and a 1648 Jon boat that’s just a little above basic, to my way of thinking. I got the 1974, 15hp outboard in January and the skiff has moved twice since then. I just like the little Jon and it’s personality. I’m glad that you have a boat you like and are comfortable in. If someone else doesn’t like it, it’s their loss. I think it’s a great little ride that will take windy conditions better than my flat bottom will. I look forward to your future posts, Mstr Dan. I’m willing to bet your freezer holds plenty of fish caught from that boat.

This is the skiff, which doesn’t get used much lately.

And this is the Jon that gets used most every weekend. Given to me on Black Friday, 2020, it’s Gods way of telling me I had no further business in a canoe or kayak.
