Default What's in your Tackle Box

Preparing my list of lures for Cappie fishing come spring.
    I have a Sweatwater 2086 pontoon with a 60up Mercury Outboard.
My home lake i(Heritage) s a160 acre lake and I plan to fish Harden Reservoir (Racoon) and a few other Indiana Lakes.
My target species will be mainly Crappie and other pan fish.
I will try my hand at trolling and spider rigging with my outboard which can range 1.5 - 2 knots on low idel. I'll forgo the trolling motor this year. I will also fish with wire trace leaders and minnows and plastic grubs with tails.
Curious what your favorite lures are in your tackle box.

First off, welcome to the site from Central Florida.
I agree with catchNgrease strongly, why you waitin til spring?
I couldn’t use up all the pages listing my favorites or even what works for me. Different lakes have different magic bullets. My best advice is to pick someplace and start there. Casting, trolling, deep jigging, jig and float and so on. Trolling motor and electronics are helpful but lots of us started without them. Watch what the other boats are doing and where they are and remember, secret spots didn’t get that name by being well known. People sometimes don’t fish and tell but some will give you apiece here and there. Something we all have is a “bag of tricks” that we dig into sometimes. You pay for that bag with time on the water and listening to some of the good friends you’ll make here and at the ramp. Troll with some 1/16 oz jigheads and vary the length of line til you catch fish and move the others close to that one. If those don’t get deep enough, go to 1/8 heads. I started with curl tails and don’t forget the roadrunners. Good luck and hope you get a bunch.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around

I'd answer your question about what's in my tacklebox, but I'd have to know WHICH ONE ??

I don't Longline Troll, but I do Push jigs & cast jigs ... so my jig tacklebox is primarily full of Slabanator plastics (Hot Rods, Mini Rods, Booty Thumpers, and Shad bodies), Road Runners, Charlie Brewer Sliders, and a handful of various other brands of plastic bodies.

I'm not really sure about "Spider Rigging" at 1.5-2 knots (~2mph +/-) but that's a good speed for Pushing/Pulling crankbaits behind 2oz-4oz trolling sinkers. (I Push jigs behind 1oz trolling sinkers @ 1mph)

This is it....catch tons of crappie with a Trout Magnet....either a Bison or Sow Bug color. Cast and retrieve only.....twitching the jig back as I retrieve. Use same lure and method for all 12 months....although I’m now sidelined from spinal surgery but should be back out soon.

    Regards

black, white, purple or blue all with chartreuse are basic colors plus the monkey milk are a solid start in all kinds of configuartions and tails. then add some charlie brewer sliders for when your in a lot of brush. have some curly tails, road runners or fin spins, beetle spins and crappie crankbaits. Lordy we crappie clansfolk love to buy tackle! Plus don't forget your basic minnow rigs as they work when other things won't. Maribou jigs can be really good as well in white, chartreuse, black etc, give a different look to the fish.

i am like many others here , i have several boxes in several locations .
i like mostly plastics and few handties , it depends on what i think the fish want as to my "favorite"
i like to have orange and chart and pearl white with me most of the time , sometimes a dash of blue and or pink in the mix
as far as brands go i like custom stuff most of the time from the smaller bait manufacturers

Different weighted jig heads. 1/32oz-1/24oz-1/16oz and I prefer them with a #4 gold lite wire hook.

Different colored plastics. You will need some vibrant colors and some natural colors. Consider pairs like wildcat blue and blue ice....pink and pearl....white and monkey milk. That way you have different variations depending if the water is stained or clear.....cloudy sky or clear sky Always have some with chartreuse. Ignore the pretty ones that you think look good.

You will need some scent. I would recommend both kinds. Solid scent and liquid scent. Crappie bites or nibbles and a dip or spray scent.

A couple different kinds and sizes of bobbers. Fixed bobbers and slip bobbers. I would recommend staying away from weighted bobbers and also bobbers with metal springs or clips.

Go early and go often. It's good for you.

    Welcome to the board.

Waiting for the thin ice on our lake to thaw and our closest Reservoir has been lowered to winter pool.
